The Jakarta Provincial Government has recorded that the progress of the redevelopment of the Lapangan Banteng and AA Maramis Building area in Central Jakarta has reached 63 per cent as of late September 2026, with completion targeted for November 2026.

“Construction has reached 63 per cent. The target is that by 22 November (2026), it can be enjoyed by the public,” said the Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Rano Karno, during a site inspection on Wednesday.

Rano stated that the area’s redevelopment is part of a phased approach to develop the Pasar Baru district to be more organised, comfortable, and integrated.

The redevelopment is also aimed at strengthening the function of Lapangan Banteng as a public space that can be used for various community activities, including the hosting of large-scale events.

“Lapangan Banteng has become an event venue, perhaps the second in Jakarta after the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS). The last performance here was by Slank, with an audience of 12,000 people,” said Rano.

In terms of accessibility, the area will prioritise space for pedestrians. Traffic management is also being adjusted to strengthen connectivity between different zones.

Meanwhile, parking requirements remain one of the aspects still being prepared as activities in the area increase.

One option currently being studied is the provision of an underground parking area or basement beneath the football pitch. This concept could refer to the underground parking facilities found in the Gelora Soemantri Brodjonegoro area.
