The DKI Jakarta Central Statistics Agency (BPS) stated that Jakarta experienced a monthly deflation of 0.15 percent in July 2026, with the food, beverage, and tobacco group being the main contributor, accounting for 0.21 percent. “The dominant commodities driving deflation in this group were red chillies, shallots, and cayenne peppers, each contributing 0.07 percent, 0.06 percent, and 0.03 percent to deflation respectively,” said Head of BPS DKI Jakarta, Kadarmanto, in Jakarta on Monday. Other commodities in the group that contributed to deflation included purebred chicken eggs and purebred chicken meat, each contributing 0.02 percent, followed by oranges, mackerel tuna, and tomatoes, each contributing 0.01 percent to deflation. Meanwhile, the most dominant commodity contributing to deflation in July 2026 was gold jewellery, with a contribution of 0.09 percent, followed by air transport fares (0.09 percent), red chillies (0.07 percent), shallots (0.06 percent), and cayenne peppers (0.03 percent). Throughout 2026, gold jewellery has recorded deflation for four consecutive months. According to Kadarmanto, this downward trend in gold jewellery prices is in line with the global movement of gold prices, particularly in bullion form. “The global gold price trend has declined in recent months, and the average price of gold jewellery in July was at the level of Rp1,717,620 per kg. Meanwhile, in March it reached its highest price, which was Rp1,942,052.72,” he explained. Nationally, Indonesia also experienced a monthly deflation in July 2026, recorded at 0.14 percent.
