Jakarta receives award for commitment to advancing low-carbon policies

The Jakarta Provincial Government has received the ‘APEX Green City Champion Award’ from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group focused on private sector development and development financing, for its commitment to advancing low-carbon policies and investment. Governor of Jakarta Pramono Anung emphasised that the award serves as motivation to accelerate the city’s transformation into a sustainable global city. ‘This award is both an honour and a motivation for Jakarta to continue accelerating its transformation into a green, resilient, inclusive, and sustainable global city,’ he said while receiving IFC Vice President for Strategy and Operation Support Elena Bourganskaia at City Hall on Tuesday. Pramono stated that the recognition also reinforces Jakarta’s strategic partnership with the IFC and the World Bank Group in developing green financing, sustainable infrastructure, private investment, and various solutions to tackle climate change challenges. He noted that support from international institutions is necessary to ensure the development agenda not only produces infrastructure but also improves environmental quality and public welfare. Moving forward, the Jakarta Provincial Government is opening wider opportunities for collaboration in mobilising private sector investment, developing climate financing mechanisms, and implementing green projects that deliver direct benefits to the community. ‘As Governor of Jakarta, I hope this partnership continues to grow through the implementation of strategic projects that have a real impact on society,’ Pramono said.
