Jakarta reaffirms commitment to creating safe school environments for children

The Jakarta Department of Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Control (PPAPP) and the Jakarta Education Department have reaffirmed their commitment to creating a safe and comfortable school environment for children. Head of the Jakarta PPAPP Department, Dwi Oktavia, stated that collaboration between regional apparatuses alone is insufficient. She emphasised the critical need for parental support in monitoring their children’s development and social interactions.

One key measure is the establishment of the Youth Information and Counselling Centre (PIK-R), a community comprising students, teachers, and education personnel. Dwi Oktavia explained that if a student faces potential problems with peers that could disrupt their mental health, the PIK-R can play a role in addressing these issues. The role of PIK-R was further strengthened through training involving teenagers, such as a session held on Tuesday, 21 July, which equipped them with knowledge and skills in the Generasi Berencana (GenRe) programme, reproductive health, and optimising PIK-R as a platform for education, information, and counselling for youth.

In addition to the PIK-R, the Jakarta PPAPP Department is also socialising the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Regulation Number 9 of 2026. This regulation serves as an implementing rule for Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on Electronic System Governance in Child Protection (PP Tunas), which restricts children from accessing various high-risk digital platforms. Dwi Oktavia noted that continuous socialisation is being conducted in various forums to help parents understand how to monitor their children’s devices or install security locks. These efforts aim to ensure that children, particularly in Jakarta, are safe and comfortable, including in the digital realm.
