Jakarta Public Transport Ridership Rises in May 2026
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of DKI Jakarta has recorded a positive trend in the capital’s public transport sector. The number of passengers on three main transport modes—MRT Jakarta, LRT Jakarta, and Transjakarta—experienced a year-on-year increase in May 2026. According to BPS data, MRT Jakarta served 3,857,969 passengers, LRT Jakarta served 119,185 passengers, and Transjakarta, including its Mikrotrans service, recorded the highest figure with 35,585,808 passengers. Head of BPS DKI Jakarta, Kadarmanto, explained that compared to conditions in May 2025, all three modes showed significant growth. ‘Compared to May 2025, the number of passengers on MRT Jakarta, LRT Jakarta, and Transjakarta increased by 5.03 percent, 11.23 percent, and 6.98 percent respectively,’ Kadarmanto stated in Jakarta on Wednesday (1/7). Despite the annual growth, data showed a decline in passenger numbers compared to the previous month. MRT Jakarta passengers fell by 0.55 percent, LRT Jakarta by 0.28 percent, and Transjakarta experienced a 6.16 percent drop. Kadarmanto noted that calendar factors were the main cause of this decline. ‘In May, there were many public holidays, which impacted the number of passengers on these three modes of transport,’ he explained.
