Jakarta Public Cemeteries Full, Al Azhar Memorial Garden Plans Expansion to 65 Hectares

The management of the Muslim cemetery Al Azhar Memorial Garden (AMG) has announced plans to expand its burial area from 25 hectares to 65 hectares. The expansion is estimated to accommodate more than 75,000 graves. This step is being taken in response to the increasingly urgent need for Muslim burial land around Jakarta and its surrounding areas. The announcement was made during the celebration of AMG’s 15th anniversary, which was attended by more than 1,000 marketing agents in Pejaten, South Jakarta, on Saturday (25/7/2026).

AMG’s Director of Business Development, Arumi, highlighted data from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government as of December 2025, which recorded that out of 80 public cemeteries (TPU) in Jakarta, 69 are already full and only serve overlapping burial systems. ‘This data shows that the need for burial land is increasingly urgent. The public needs to plan their burial needs early as part of life planning, not just during emergency conditions,’ Arumi stated on Sunday (26/7/2026).

Arumi explained that AMG is committed to providing a final resting place solution that is well-maintained, professional, and in accordance with Islamic law. After-sales service and public trust are recognised as the main focus in maintaining the quality of cemetery management. Additionally, AMG is inviting the public to participate in promoting and marketing burial plots as a form of long-term investment.
