Jakarta Provincial Government: Transport Subsidies Reach Rp3.75 Trillion This Year

The Jakarta Provincial Government has revealed that public transport subsidies in the capital this year have reached Rp3.75 trillion. Firdaus Ali, Coordinator of Special Staff to the Governor of Jakarta, stated that the subsidy is provided to maintain public mobility access, including for residents in Jakarta’s buffer zones. He highlighted that Transjakarta fares have not increased for 22 years. “Transjakarta fares have not gone up, have they? They are still the fares from 22 years ago, Rp3,500, and this year we are spending Rp3.75 trillion on transport subsidies,” Firdaus said on CNN Indonesia TV’s Prime Plus programme on Monday evening. Firdaus added that the Jakarta Provincial Government is also expanding transport service coverage through the development of Transjabodetabek routes, an initiative championed by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Deputy Governor Rano Karno. “This is part of the Jakarta Provincial Government’s commitment to reducing inequality in access,” he said. Nevertheless, Firdaus acknowledged that the Jakarta administration faces a fiscal challenge in 2026 after its revenue-sharing funds were cut by approximately Rp16 trillion. Amid this fiscal challenge, the Jakarta Provincial Government has guaranteed that three sectors will not experience budget cuts: education, healthcare, and social assistance. Furthermore, the administration is promoting creative financing schemes to support the development of several projects in Jakarta without using the regional budget (APBD). “It has been proven, for example, when we built Taman Bendera Pusaka, it did not use the APBD at all. We are currently refurbishing Semanggi, which will be transformed next year, and that also does not use APBD funds,” he said.
