The Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture Agency (KPKP) is collaborating with the IPB Halal Science Center to train 80 halal slaughterers (Juleha) for ruminant animals, such as cattle, buffalo, goats, and sheep, by 2026.

“Participants are drawn from Mosque Welfare Boards (DKM) that have registered and been selected from across the Jakarta Province,” said the Head of the Jakarta KPKP, Hasudungan A. Sidabalok, during an online socialisation event regarding quality sacrificial meat in Jakarta on Monday.

The training programme aims to enhance skills, understanding of Sharia law, and the application of hygiene and sanitation during slaughtering. The goal is to meet animal welfare aspects, thereby ensuring the halal status and safety of animal-based food products, making them safe, healthy, intact, and halal.

To date, a total of 448 halal slaughterers have been trained across Jakarta. “It is one of our targets to ensure that the number of participants in this Juleha training continues to increase,” said Hasudungan.

He added that if animal slaughtering is performed in accordance with Islamic law, then the meat and its derivatives will, God willing, be of high quality. He noted that the slaughtering of sacrificial animals is the essence of the Eid al-Adha celebration. Beyond being a part of worship, the sacrifice also serves as a symbol of compassion among Muslims, both those performing the sacrifice and those who are not. “Everyone can feel the benefits and joy on the day of Eid al-Adha,” concluded Hasudungan.
