Jakarta Provincial Government to Switch Off Lights Simultaneously Three Times, Monas and Protocol Roads to Go Dark
The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta will switch off lights simultaneously three times, taking place on 25 April 2026 for Earth Day, 13 June 2026 for World Environment Day, and 26 September 2026 for World Ozone Day.
The light switch-off activity aims to encourage energy savings, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and increase public awareness and participation in efforts to prevent and control environmental pollution,” said the Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Dudi Gardesi Sadikin, in a written statement on Friday (24/4/2026).
This programme is also part of the implementation of Governor’s Instruction No. 14 of 2021 on the implementation of light switch-offs as an action for energy savings and carbon emission reduction.
The switch-off locations will be focused on five regions of Jakarta, targeting government buildings, DKI Jakarta Provincial Government offices, and several private buildings such as shopping centres, hotels, restaurants, and apartments.
However, essential services such as hospitals, community health centres, and clinics will be exempted to continue operating as usual.
“All buildings, DKI Jakarta Provincial Government office buildings except hospitals, community health centres, clinics. Some private-owned buildings, commercial buildings, shopping centres, restaurants, hotels, and apartments,” said Dudi.
Several main roads in Jakarta that will be subject to the light switch-off are as follows:
JI. Sudirman (Dukuh Atas - Sampoerna Strategic Building), Jalan MH. Thamrin, around Jalan Medan Merdeka (Medan Merdeka Sub-district, North in front of the Presidential Palace), Jalan Gerbang Pemuda - Jalan Asia Afrika, the courtyard of the City Hall Office, Central Jakarta Mayor’s Office.
JI. Yos Sudarso, North Jakarta Mayor’s Office Complex, and JI. Perintis Kemerdekaan.
Jl. Dr. Sumarno, Jl. Perintis Kemerdekaan, and East Jakarta Mayor’s Office Complex.
JI. Daan Mogot and JI. Kemanggisan Raya (in front of West Jakarta Mayor’s Office) and West Jakarta Mayor’s Office Complex.
