The Jakarta provincial government is again hosting a free Eid homecoming programme for 2026. A total of 30,000 returnees will be sent through this free mudik (homecoming) programme.

“The number of homecomers has increased. We originally estimated 26,000, but due to high enthusiasm, the number that has now been verified and approved by us has become 30,774 homecomers,” said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

Pramono explained that the free homecoming departures are scheduled to begin on 17 March 2026. Homecomers will depart from the National Monument area.

Meanwhile, Jakarta’s Head of Transportation Services Syafrin Liputo said that the increase in participant numbers has prompted the Jakarta provincial government to expand the bus fleet being prepared. A total of 709 buses have been arranged for the free homecoming.

“The number of buses has now become 709 buses, from the previous around 660,” said Syafrin.

He stated that all homecoming participants being sent out are residents who have undergone a verification process. Therefore, there will be no additional new participants or prospective passengers arriving on the day of departure.

“Only those who have been verified will be sent off. So there are no further announcements because everything has been recorded and verified,” he explained.

The Jakarta provincial government has also reminded the public not to arrive at the departure location without being registered as a free homecoming participant. This is to avoid crowds and ensure the departure process runs in an orderly manner.

The free homecoming programme hosted by the Jakarta provincial government every year aims to help residents return to their hometowns safely and comfortably whilst reducing congestion from private vehicles during the Eid holiday period.
