Jakarta Provincial Government to Partner with San Siro Managers to Improve JIS Governance
The Jakarta Provincial Government is exploring cooperation with the managers of San Siro Stadium regarding the management of the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS). This is being done because the Jakarta Provincial Government wishes to improve the governance of JIS.
Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno stated that Jakarta needs to learn from the experience of San Siro as one of the world’s football icons. He assessed that a modern stadium does not only function as a football arena, but also as a sports tourism destination, a space for the creative economy, an entertainment centre, and an icon of pride for residents.
“San Siro is one of the world’s football icons that has been around for 100 years since 1925 and continues to develop to have a capacity of 75,000 spectators. We are not just visiting, but learning how a stadium can thrive as a historical space, business, entertainment, and become a source of pride for residents,” he said in his statement on Wednesday (13/5/2026).
According to Rano, JIS has great potential to develop as a modern stadium. Therefore, he asked PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), the manager of JIS, to follow up on communication and knowledge transfer with the San Siro Stadium side.
He said that the experience of San Siro is important for Jakarta because JIS is designed as strategic infrastructure to support Jakarta’s position as a global city. He hopes that this collaboration will be an initial step to expand JIS’s international network in aspects of stadium management, event organisation, sports tourism promotion, and visitor experience content development.
In addition, he hopes that the collaboration can cover stadium governance, large-scale event management, optimisation of non-competition activities, and visitor experience development. In this way, JIS can have activities throughout the year.
