Jakarta Provincial Government to Make 103 Private Schools Free Starting 2026, Here are the Requirements and List
The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) has made 40 private schools free for the 2025-2026 academic year. The number of private schools made free will increase to 103 for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Head of the Jakarta Provincial Education Office (Disdik), Nahdiana, stated that 63 additional private schools will also be made free for the upcoming new academic year. This means there will be a total of 103 private schools made free by the Jakarta Provincial Government starting from the 2026-2027 academic year.
“The free schools that are already running are 40 schools. Then, starting in July, there will be an addition of 63 schools. So the total is 103 schools,” she said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (22/4/2026).
According to her, the selection of private schools to be made free is adjusted to Jakarta Governor Regulation (Pergub) No. 34 of 2025 on Education Cost Assistance for Private Education Units. She explained that the private schools made free are those located in environments where there are no public schools.
In addition, the private schools have also been accepting students continuously. This means the private schools have establishment permits, have national school principal numbers (NPSN) recorded in the basic education data (dapodik), are accredited by BAN-PDM, and have been BOS recipients for the last 3 years without limits.
“And it is not included in SPK schools, international schools, or joint SPMB conducted by the DKI Government. Then, it conducts uninterrupted teaching and learning processes, as I mentioned earlier,” said Nahdiana.
She emphasised that private schools that have received education funding must no longer collect any fees from students in any form. This means students are no longer burdened with school fees.
“So in Article 20 of the Pergub, private schools receiving education funding are prohibited from collecting fees in any form from students,” she said.
Nahdiana explained that the education funding can be used by schools for new student admission costs, development of facilities and infrastructure, implementation supporting quality, up to development for educators and education personnel. Even for private vocational schools (SMK) or special high schools (SMA LB), the funding can also be used for competency enhancement activities, including activities supporting graduate employability.
She added that the funding can also be used for evaluation or assessment implementation. In addition, the funding also includes payment of teacher salaries and honoraria.
Nahdiana mentioned that last year, the budget used for the free private school programme was Rp 107,855,592,421 for 40 schools. The budget is said to have increased by more than 100 percent this year, as the number of free private schools has increased.
“So Rp 282.4 billion,” she said.
