Jakarta Provincial Government to Increase Number of Free Private Schools to 103 This Year
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Jakarta Provincial Government has been providing free education at 40 private schools since the 2025-2026 academic year. The plan is to expand this free private school program to 103 schools in the new 2026-2027 academic year.
Head of the Jakarta Provincial Education Office, Nahdiana, said that currently, 40 private schools are already part of the program. According to her, the program will be expanded to include dozens more private schools, bringing the total to 103 schools this year.
“We are adding 63 schools. So, in 2026, the total will be 103. There were already 40 initially,” she said at the Jakarta Education Office, Thursday (February 26, 2026).
She explained that the free private school program has been running since the beginning of the 2025-2026 academic year. In the initial phase, 40 private schools were included in the program.
“The 40 schools have been part of the program since 2025. The academic year starts in July and ends in June. It will start again in July 2026. So, these 103 schools will start in July 2026,” said Nahdiana.
