Jakarta Provincial Government to Host Halal Bihalal Event in Old Town This Weekend
The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI Jakarta) is holding the Halal Bihalal Jakarta event as a unifying platform for all segments of society at Fatahillah Square in the Old Town area, West Jakarta, on Saturday, 11 April 2026. Head of the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Disparekraf) Andhika Permata stated that the event is designed to bring together residents from diverse ethnic, religious, and social backgrounds to strengthen social ties and facilitate direct communication between the government and the public in a public space. “We want to convey the message that every resident, from Gen Z to previous generations, has an equal place in building the narrative of Jakarta city,” said Andhika in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday. Through a blend of traditional silaturahmi and modern technology, such as video mapping, the halal bihalal event aims to celebrate togetherness while affirming Jakarta’s identity as a harmonious global city. The Halal Bihalal Jakarta event begins with interfaith prayers, featuring all religious leaders to pray for the maintenance of harmony in Indonesia, particularly in DKI Jakarta. The event also serves as a showcase for Jakarta’s tourism and creative economy sectors. The use of the historical architecture at Fatahillah Square as a digital canvas through video mapping performances symbolises respect for the city’s history as well as innovation in tourism attractions. Additionally, the event provides a space for young talents to express themselves through light installations and art performances, as well as a music performance by the Purwacaraka Orchestra. “This initiative proves that Jakarta’s public spaces can drive creativity, uniting historical values with the vibrancy of modern entertainment for residents and tourists alike,” Andhika explained.
