Jakarta Provincial Government to formulate scheme for Waste-to-Energy Plant management

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo said his administration would soon formulate a scheme for managing Waste-to-Energy plants (WtE) together with Danantara and WtE operators. ‘Soon the scheme will be formulated between Danantara, the WtE operators, and the Jakarta Provincial Government. Those three parties are responsible for managing issues relating to WtE,’ Pramono said at the City Hall in Jakarta on Wednesday. He said that Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 109 of 2025 on urban waste-to-energy conversion will be a reference. ‘The most important thing is that the government has issued a regulation on a tariff of 20 sen per kWh. This is for reference. Later, whether it is profitable or not is a matter for the field,’ he said. Nevertheless, the government will give full support to the construction of three WtE plants that are soon entering the contract-signing phase. In addition, Jakarta is developing Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) facilities in Rorotan and Bantar Gebang to strengthen the integrated waste processing industry. Pramono hopes that a combination of WtE and RDF can reduce Jakarta’s daily waste volume, which has previously reached almost 9,000 tonnes per day, while also creating new economic value in the waste management sector. ‘Hopefully the city’s waste problem, its waste balance which used to be almost 9,000 tonnes per day, will, God willing, be absorbed on the ground,’ he said.
