Jakarta Provincial Government to Build 12 New Pumping Stations by 2027 to Control Flooding

The Jakarta Provincial Government is accelerating flood control infrastructure development by constructing 12 new water management pumping stations by 2027. The projects are spread across flood-prone areas, from Cilincing in North Jakarta to Cengkareng in West Jakarta.

Water Resources Agency (SDA) Head Ika Agustin stated the construction aims to strengthen flood control amid extreme rainfall trends. She noted that Jakarta’s current flood infrastructure is designed for rainfall of 100-150mm only.

“Jakarta’s flood infrastructure is effective for 100-150mm of rainfall, but higher rainfall requires greater infrastructure capacity,” Agustin said when contacted on Thursday, 28 May 2026.

Agustin explained that the new pumping stations will be built in phases from 2025 to 2027 under the JakTirta and National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) projects. The focus is on strengthening polder systems, enhancing drainage capacity, and speeding up floodwater receding in vulnerable areas.

The 12 new and upgraded pumping systems include:

• Construction of Bulak Cabe Pumping Station with a capacity of 24 cubic metres per second.

• Construction of Pegangsaan Dua Pumping Station with a capacity of 9 cubic metres per second.

• Construction of Cilincing KBN Pumping Station with a capacity of 16 cubic metres per second.

• Construction of Warung Jengkol Pumping Station with a capacity of 2 cubic metres per second.

• Construction of Kampung Sawah and Rawa Terate Pumping Station with a capacity of 6 cubic metres per second.

• Construction of Kayu Putih and Rawa Terate Pumping Station with a capacity of 15 cubic metres per second.

• Upgrade of Ancol Pumping Station to 25 cubic metres per second.

• Upgrade of IKIP Pumping Station to 6 cubic metres per second.

• Construction of Cempaka Putih Pumping Station with a capacity of 14 cubic metres per second.

• Construction of Cengkareng Pumping Station with a capacity of 12 cubic metres per second.

• Construction of Mangga Raya Greenville Pumping Station with a capacity of 4.5 cubic metres per second.

• Construction of Daan Mogot Pumping Station (Depag, KM 13, KM 13.5) with a capacity of 23 cubic metres per second.

The Jakarta Provincial Government is also upgrading existing pumping stations in several areas, with some projects targeted for completion by end-2027.

The government is constructing and upgrading water management systems for IKIP Pumping Station (6 cubic metres per second), Cempaka Putih Pumping Station (14 cubic metres per second), Cengkareng Pumping Station (12 cubic metres per second), Mangga Raya Greenville Pumping Station (4.5 cubic metres per second), and Daan Mogot Pumping Station (Depag, KM 13, KM 13.5) with a capacity of 23 cubic metres per second.

Besides pumping stations, the Water Resources Agency is improving river and canal infrastructure, constructing reservoirs and dams, and normalising rivers at priority sites including Ciliwung River, Krukut River, and Cakung Lama River.

According to data as of 18 May 2026, the Jakarta Provincial Government currently has 683 stationary pumps across 246 locations and 540 mobile pumps spread across five administrative cities and the Thousand Islands Regency to accelerate flood management,” she added.
