Jakarta Provincial Government strengthens synergy to build women's protection system
The Jakarta Provincial Government is strengthening synergy with various parties, including ministries, businesses, professional organisations, academics, media and the public, in building a comprehensive women’s protection system.
Head of the Jakarta Empowerment, Child Protection and Population Control Agency (PPAPP) Dwi Oktavia said this synergy is necessary because violence against women, including sexual violence in the workplace, can occur in various forms, whether physical, verbal, non-verbal, psychological or through digital media.
“The impact is not only felt by victims personally, but also affects company productivity, the quality of working relationships and organisational image,” Dwi said in an official statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Regarding efforts to prevent violence against women, the Jakarta PPAPP Agency held an online socialisation event on the Protection of Women Workers on Wednesday with the theme “Safe Women, Comfortable Workplaces: Realising Safe, Equal and Violence-Free Workplaces”.
Through this socialisation, the Jakarta PPAPP Agency encouraged all participants to implement a zero-tolerance principle towards sexual violence, including through the formulation and implementation of policies on Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment in the workplace, as well as through the establishment of Women Workers’ Protection Houses.
Dwi emphasised that as a global city, Jakarta continues to strive to create a work environment that is safe, equal, inclusive and free from violence.
According to her, preventing violence against women in the workplace is not only about protecting women, but also part of efforts to build a healthy working world and support Jakarta as a competitive city.
Therefore, Dwi said, prevention requires shared commitment through clear internal policies, easily accessible complaint mechanisms, protection for victims, and increased understanding among all workers regarding their rights and obligations.
The Jakarta Provincial Government, she continued, in addition to strengthening prevention efforts and internal handling mechanisms within businesses or companies, is also building networks and coordinating with the Jakarta Women and Children Protection Centre (PPPA).
She assessed that this network is important so that if violence or sexual harassment against women workers occurs at any time, victims can immediately obtain access to complaint services, assistance, protection and referrals according to their needs, while prioritising confidentiality, safety and the rights of victims.
