Amid rapidly changing work environments, companies need workers who are not only ready to work but also possess skills relevant to technological advancements and market demands.

Meeting this challenge, the Jakarta Provincial Government is strengthening various job training programmes through the Department of Labour, Transmigration, and Energy (Disnakertransgi) to equip citizens with skills better aligned with industry needs.

Syaripudin, head of Jakarta’s Department of Labour, Transmigration, and Energy (Disnakertransgi), said skill enhancement is crucial for opening employment opportunities for the public.

“Individuals with skills will find it easier to secure jobs or create new ones, ultimately reducing unemployment,” he stated in a written response to Kompas.com on Friday, 29 May 2026.

One of the programmes implemented is the Mobile Training Unit (MTU), part of the Jakarta Provincial Government’s effort to make job training more accessible to the public.

Syaripudin explained that MTU differs from conventional training; sessions are conducted not only at training centres but also directly in communities.

The outreach concept allows residents to participate without high transport costs or long absences from daily activities.

The programme targets job seekers, housewives, and low-income residents who previously struggled to access formal training centres.

According to Syaripudin, MTU training types can be tailored to local needs and economic potential.

“The government can adjust the skills provided based on local economic potential, such as culinary arts, sewing, graphic design, vehicle servicing, and other digital skills,” he said.

From 2026, MTU participants will undergo competency tests to obtain certification.

Besides MTU, the Jakarta Provincial Government is optimising the role of the Regional Training Centre (PPKD), with training programmes aligned more closely with industry demands.

Currently, popular training options include air-conditioning technicians, culinary arts, fashion sewing, and barista skills.

However, with rising demand for digital sector workers, Disnakertransgi is expanding digital skills training.

“New MTU specialisations matching the digital industry include junior content creators, basic digital marketing, video editing, and junior graphic designers,” Syaripudin said.
