Jakarta Provincial Government Ready to Send Aid for Post-Earthquake Response in NTT
A 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province on Saturday (15/8/2026), resulting in dozens of reported fatalities.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said he has coordinated with the central government regarding the dispatch of aid. He confirmed that the Jakarta Provincial Government will contribute to helping residents affected by the earthquake disaster.
“Yesterday we immediately carried out coordination, and the Jakarta Provincial Government will always contribute to providing for and easing the burden on our brothers and sisters affected by the earthquake,” he said on Sunday (16/8/2026).
According to him, the Jakarta Provincial Government is still mapping the impact of the disaster. He stated that his administration will provide assistance to ease the burden on the affected victims.
“Later for those in NTT, in Maumere and so on, we are studying which areas the Jakarta Provincial Government can participate in providing assistance,” said Pramono.
Based on data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) as of Sunday at 16.00 WIB, the death toll from the earthquake has reached 53 people. The distribution of victims was identified in Manggarai Regency with 25 people, East Manggarai 20 people, Sikka 4 people, West Manggarai one person, Nagekeo one person, and Ende two people.
Acting Head of the BNPB Centre for Disaster Data, Information, and Communication, Berton SP Panjaitan, said that joint officers have also evacuated and provided medical treatment to the injured victims. He stated that the total number of injured has reached 137 people.
“Currently, the injured are undergoing treatment at the nearest health facilities as well as emergency health facilities,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the total number of heavily damaged houses is 154 units, moderately damaged 49 units, and lightly damaged 38 units. Damage also occurred to public facilities, such as educational facilities, places of worship, government offices, and a number of other public facilities.
Meanwhile, data collection on displaced residents is still being carried out by the joint team. As of Sunday, a total of 5,488 people have been displaced in centralised shelters and 171 others have been displaced independently.
According to him, a number of aid packages have been distributed both by land and air. Aid that has arrived includes logistical assistance from the central government that has reached Maumere and Labuan Bajo, with the total aid distributed reaching 4,925 packages.
