Jakarta Provincial Government Provides Free Funeral Services at 82 Public Cemeteries in Jakarta
The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI Jakarta) officially provides free funeral services at 82 Taman Pemakaman Umum (TPU) across Jakarta. The move is intended to alleviate the burden on communities while ensuring funeral services that are decent, transparent, and free from corruption (pungli).
Head of the Department of Parks and City Forests (Distamhut) M. Fajar Sauri said the programme is a form of government presence for citizens who are grieving. This complimentary service includes processing of Izin Penggunaan Tanah Makam (IPTM) for both new and shared graves, as well as hearse services.
In addition to administration, Pemprov DKI also provides mortuary preparation facilities, bathing attendants, and on-site amenities at the TPU such as tents, chairs, and loudspeakers.
All digging and grave closure are carried out by Individual Other Service Providers (PJLP), with no additional charges for heirs.
Those needing hearse service can contact the official hotline (number not specified in the article).
To facilitate the process, IPTM processing can now be done online via the Jakarta Evolution system (JAKEVO) at jakevo.jakarta.go.id or via the Jakarta Kini (JAKI) app.
Fajar urged residents not to give tips or gratuities to field officers. If graft is suspected, residents can report via the Parks Service Hotline at 0858-9000-9132 or through the official social media channel @tamanhutandki.
The Jakarta provincial government confirms that funeral services at 82 TPU are now fully free to ease the burden on residents and to eradicate bribery.
