Jakarta Provincial Government Prepares IDR 15 Billion Budget for MH Thamrin Museum Revitalisation
The Jakarta provincial government will revitalise the MH Thamrin Museum in Central Jakarta. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has allocated a budget of IDR 15 billion for the project.
“Therefore, based on a decision I made in a meeting last week, we will revitalise the Husni Thamrin Museum. The cost will be IDR 15 billion,” said Pramono during an iftar gathering with the Betawi community council at Tangkuban Parahu Mosque, Setiabudi, South Jakarta, on Monday (2 March 2026).
According to Pramono, the revitalisation of the MH Thamrin Museum is a fitting tribute to a figure who made great contributions to Jakarta. He argued that the museum renovation is justified given the substantial funding.
“Whenever I see the Husni Thamrin Museum, I think about how this figure built up Jakarta, built up Batavia, and built up the Betawi people, yet we have not given him the proper recognition he deserves,” he explained.
Pramono expressed his desire to make the MH Thamrin Museum a frequently visited destination. He noted that Jakarta should not be defined solely by Ancol and Monas.
“I genuinely hope people will learn from Husni Thamrin and that we will make this museum truly worthy, a place where people can study and learn about Jakarta’s history,” he said.
