Jakarta Provincial Government Prepares Car Free Night for Takbir Eve Ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026
The Jakarta Provincial Government plans to hold a Car Free Night (CFN) event to celebrate the Takbir eve welcoming Eid al-Fitr 1447H/2026. However, the exact schedule remains pending the results of the government’s isbat session determining the date of Eid.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that based on preliminary plans, the event would be held on Saturday evening, 21 March. “The Car Free Night will be held on Sunday evening,” said Pramono when met by media in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, 17 March.
Awaiting Isbat Session Decision
Pramono explained that the timing of the CFN is currently tentative. The provincial administration is monitoring developments regarding the determination of 1 Syawal to align the activity with the official Eid announcement.
“There is a slight dilemma. Because the isbat session—whether held on 19 or 20—and whether Eid this year will be the same as before among various organisations or different; we are still waiting for that,” Pramono added.
Duration Restrictions
In line with the Governor, Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno outlined technical details regarding the road closure duration. The Provincial Government decided to limit the CFN duration to ensure preparations for Eid prayers the following day would not be disrupted.
Rano stated that the CFN is planned to run briefly from 20.00 to 22.00 WIB. “Previously we planned to start at 10 o’clock, but if we start at 10 it runs until 12 o’clock, which would hinder Eid prayer preparations,” Rano explained.
He also emphasised that flexibility regarding timing would be maintained according to isbat developments. However, he assured that the joint takbir activity would still be held.
“We are waiting for the isbat result; our CFN plan was originally 19 March, but the isbat date is not yet confirmed. If it indeed moves to 20 March, the joint takbir will still happen, but the Car Free Night will run from 8 o’clock until 10 o’clock,” he concluded.
