Jakarta Provincial Government Plans to Partner with Bogor and Bekasi to Eradicate Janitor Fish
The Jakarta Provincial Government plans to partner with buffer regions such as Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi to eradicate the janitor fish that damage river ecosystems.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Food Security, Maritime Affairs, and Agriculture Office (KPKP), Hasudungan, stated that the plan remains at the discussion stage.
However, this step is deemed important because janitor fish reproduce from upstream to downstream of rivers.
Currently, the Jakarta Provincial Government is also coordinating with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries regarding regulations for controlling invasive fish, namely Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Regulation No. 19 of 2020.
By partnering with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the control of janitor fish will not be limited to the Jakarta area.
The whole of Indonesia can safeguard river ecosystems from the growth of janitor fish.
“We are coordinating with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries regarding Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Regulation No. 19 of 2020 on the control of invasive fish. If the central government has a broader scope, it can reach the entire Indonesia,” said Hasudungan.
Previously, the Jakarta Provincial Government had simultaneously captured janitor fish in five administrative city areas on Friday (17/4/2026).
In one day, 68,800 fish were caught.
Of the five regions, South Jakarta recorded the highest catch with 63,600 fish or about 5.3 tonnes.
The capture was carried out in the Setu Babakan Outlet Water Gate area, Srengseng Sawah Ward, Jagakarsa Subdistrict.
Meanwhile, in Central Jakarta, 536 fish weighing 565 kilograms were secured at seven subdistrict points.
North Jakarta recorded 545 fish weighing 271 kilograms from the connecting channel of RW 06, Kelapa Gading Barat Ward, Kelapa Gading Subdistrict.
West Jakarta became the region with the lowest catch, namely 71 fish weighing 17 kilograms in the Kali Anak TSI, Duri Kosambi Ward, Cengkareng Subdistrict.
