Jakarta Provincial Government Partners with Private Sector to Activate Public Spaces

The momentum of the 2026 World Cup final was utilised by the Jakarta Provincial Government to activate public spaces through community-engaging activities. Collaborating with UniPin, thousands of residents packed Taman Bendera Pusaka Barito in South Jakarta from Sunday evening into the early hours of Monday to watch the final match between Spain and Argentina. The event served as a form of public space utilisation through collaboration between the government and the private sector. Beyond watching the match, the public also participated in various community activities supported by CRING!, eFootball, Google Play, Duolingo, Akatsuki Red Cloud, and Jakmania. Diky Soemarno, Special Staff to the Governor of Jakarta and Head of the Youth and Sports Division, stated that the event aligns with the government’s programme to optimise the use of public spaces. ‘Tonight, the Jakarta Provincial Government expresses its gratitude for the extraordinary collaboration with UniPin, supported by Cring and Duolingo. This public viewing of the World Cup party is in line with the central government of the Republic of Indonesia’s programme to optimise the use of public spaces,’ said Diky. UniPin CEO Ashadi Ang said that sport has the power to unite communities. According to him, the collaboration with the Jakarta Provincial Government was carried out to provide an interaction space that brings together the government, business players, communities, and the public. ‘We believe sport has the power to unite communities. In addition to the public viewing, UniPin also screened the film Petualangan JeKaTe, a production of the Jakarta Film Commission, as support for developing Jakarta as a cinema city through a blend of sports and arts activities in public spaces.
