Jakarta Provincial Government Optimises Parking Sector Revenue through Digitalisation
The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta is strengthening the management of the parking sector to optimise locally generated revenue (PAD) through the digitalisation of payment systems and enhanced oversight. This strategic move includes expanding cashless payment systems and changing cooperation schemes with private parties.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency, Budi Awaluddin, stated that the potential for locally generated revenue from the parking sector remains very large and can still be increased. Improvements are being carried out comprehensively, from cracking down on illegal parking to modernising parking management infrastructure in the capital.
“The steps we are taking include developing new parking locations, encouraging cashless payments, improving parking equipment, and strengthening supervision of compliance with parking operation permits,” Budi said when contacted by Media Indonesia on Wednesday (19/8).
One of the main breakthroughs is a change in the method of sharing parking cooperation revenue. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is now shifting from a fixed income system to a minimum fixed income plus percentage scheme. This change is expected to provide a more significant contribution to regional revenue.
Regarding digitalisation, cashless payment systems have currently been implemented on 31 road sections. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is targeting the expansion of this system to cover 75 road sections by 2026.
Budi is optimistic that digitalisation will create a more transparent and accountable oversight system. This also serves as a preventive measure to narrow the space for illegal parking practices that have been harming the public and reducing regional revenue potential.
Furthermore, Budi emphasised that optimising locally generated revenue must go hand in hand with improving service quality. He urged the public to always use official parking locations and utilise the digital payment facilities provided by the government.
“The DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency will continue to strengthen supervision, expand digitalisation, and take firm action against unlicensed illegal parking practices,” he concluded.
