Jakarta provincial government finalises evaluations ahead of Rasuna Said Car Free Day launch

The Jakarta provincial government has conducted various evaluations ahead of the Car Free Day (CFD) in Rasuna Said’s official regular implementation starting 7 June 2026. Special Adviser to the Jakarta Governor and Deputy Governor for Public Communication, Chico Hakim, stated that the provincial government, through the Transportation Department and relevant local government agencies, has assessed infrastructure readiness post revitalisation. ‘Although not 100% complete, it has been deemed suitable,’ he said when contacted in Jakarta on Friday. Additionally, traffic management and access points, support facilities such as pavements, activity zones, and security, as well as the impact on local residents’ mobility and comfort, crowd management, and cleanliness have been evaluated. ‘This is why it was temporarily suspended on 17 May. Currently, preparations are in their final stages, including coordination with the National Police, municipal police, and area management,’ Hakim added. He emphasised that the Jakarta provincial government is optimistic the Rasuna Said CFD will run more smoothly from next month, providing a comfortable open space for Jakarta residents. The Rasuna Said CFD will be held every Sunday from 05:30 to 09:00 WIB, while the Thamrin-Sudirman CFD runs from 05:30 to 10:00 WIB. ‘The shorter duration was deliberately chosen to consider surrounding business and office activities starting at 10:00 WIB,’ Hakim said.
