Jakarta Provincial Government Encourages Youth Creativity Amid Economic Pressures
The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta is encouraging the younger generation to continue developing creativity and innovation amidst the current economic challenges. One such effort is being carried out through the organisation of the 2026 Jakarta Youth Creativity Event (AKPJ).
Head of the DKI Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency (Kadispora), Andri Yansyah, stated that AKPJ 2026 is an annual agenda held in stages from the city/regency level up to the provincial level.
"The purpose of this activity is certainly that we want young people who have innovation, high creativity, and more importantly, to build networking across all fields," Andri said during the launch of AKPJ 2026 at the Proclamation Monument in Central Jakarta on Saturday (20/6/2026).
AKPJ 2026 features competitions in a number of categories, including solo vocal, fashion design, graphic design, monologue, band, Betawi creative dance, modern dance, and cosplay.
He hopes the activity will be able to explore the positive potential of Jakarta’s young generation so they can become pioneers, agents of change, and drivers of development in their respective environments. The DKI Jakarta provincial-level final of AKPJ 2026 is scheduled to take place next August after the entire selection series in the five city areas has been completed.
A similar sentiment was conveyed by the Special Staff to the Governor of DKI Jakarta for Youth and Sports, Dicky Soemarno, who considers creativity to be an important trait that Jakarta’s youth must possess. According to him, in line with the direction of the Governor and Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, the capital city needs to prioritise the concept of creative financing that relies on community innovation and creativity.
"In a situation like this, as directed by the Governor and Deputy Governor, Jakarta must be able to stand on its own feet and they also always prioritise creative financing. This means that creativity is indeed number one in Jakarta," Dicky said.
He hopes AKPJ 2026 can serve as a stimulus for Jakarta’s youth to develop their potential while preparing for a better future.
"We hope that the Jakarta Youth Creativity Event like this becomes a good stimulus for young people in Jakarta to develop themselves towards their future," he stated.
According to Dicky, the challenging economic conditions demand that the younger generation possess the ability to think creatively and innovate. In doing so, they can create new opportunities for their career and life development.
"The economic situation is also like this, so Jakarta’s youth are asked to be able to think, work, and be creative so that their life development can be better in the future," he said.
On the same occasion, Dicky appreciated the steps taken by the DKI Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency in continuously providing self-development spaces for young people through AKPJ.
"In my opinion, what the Youth and Sports Agency has done today is something truly extraordinary. How the agency, as the department responsible for youth, carries out its responsibility to provide an embryo for young people so they are able to develop, especially in Jakarta," he concluded.
