The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI Jakarta) is coordinating with experts from the Cultural Heritage Conservation Centre (PKCB) to clean the Monas Monument as part of efforts to maintain the capital’s iconic landmark.

‘Continuing coordination with PKCB, the Cultural Affairs Agency, and the Ministry of Culture,’ said Muhammad Isa Sarnuri, Head of the Monas Area Management Unit (UPK), when contacted in Jakarta on Monday.

He stated that the cleaning of the monument’s body would take approximately six months, conducted with specific and measured measures to ensure safety and historical conservation.

‘The cleaning activity is ongoing. It’s a special cleaning for the monument, lasting around six months,’ Isa added.

Through this initiative, the Jakarta Provincial Government aims to preserve Monas as a source of pride for the city, ensuring it remains well-maintained, presentable, and comfortable for both locals and tourists.

Monas is one of Jakarta’s key tourist areas, especially on holidays. On Sunday, 31 May, visitor numbers reached approximately 14,309, including 126 international tourists.

Isa noted the international visitors came from China, Japan, Germany, the UK, South Korea, Malaysia, Italy, and Australia.

Today, Monday, coinciding with Pancasila Day on 1 June, Monas is closed for routine maintenance of the area and facilities.

Mondays are scheduled for regular maintenance to ensure comfort, safety, and quality of facilities for all visitors. Monas will reopen on Tuesday, 2 June 2026.
