Jakarta Provincial Government Apologises for Delay in Kelapa Gading-Manggarai LRT Inauguration
The Jakarta Provincial Government has officially apologised for the delay in the inauguration schedule of the LRT Jakarta Kelapa Gading-Manggarai route. The apology was addressed particularly to residents who had adjusted their travel plans following the planned traffic management measures in the Manggarai area.
Special Staff to the Governor of Jakarta for Public Communication, Chico Hakim, explained that the schedule adjustment was made to ensure service inclusivity. The government wants to ensure all supporting facilities are fully ready before being opened to the public.
“Access facilities, information, and priority services need to be confirmed complete before the inauguration, including for persons with disabilities, the elderly, children, and residents changing modes of transport at Manggarai,” said Chico in Jakarta on Wednesday (26/8).
Regarding operational matters, Governor of Jakarta Pramono Anung Wibowo provided certainty on the fare scheme. The Kelapa Gading-Manggarai LRT line will implement a flat fare of Rp5,000 during the initial operational period. This fare policy is planned to remain in effect until October 2026.
After the transition period ends, the Jakarta Provincial Government will evaluate and determine the subsequent fare amount. Pramono also hinted at a special policy or “gift” for users during the initial operating period, although the details are still being finalised.
Technically, Pramono confirmed that the physical construction progress of the line from Kelapa Gading to Manggarai has been fully completed. All main infrastructure, from the rails to the elevated tracks, is ready for use.
Currently, LRT Jakarta operations are only awaiting the green light from the central government. “The remaining process is just waiting for testing from the central government through the Ministry of Transportation,” concluded Pramono.
In addition to the general fare, the Jakarta Provincial Government also confirmed that the free transport policy for 15 specific groups of residents in Jakarta will continue to apply to this LRT service, in order to maintain public transport accessibility for residents in need.
