The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI), through its Education Office, has prepared a budget exceeding Rp200 billion for the free private school programme in the 2026/2027 academic year. This year, Pemprov DKI has added 63 private schools to the programme, bringing the total to 103 free private schools. “The budget allocated for the 103 private schools is Rp253.625.139.600,” said Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Office, Nahdiana, when contacted in Jakarta on Friday (17/4/2026). From these 103 schools, the projected number of students is 23,694. Nahdiana stated that Pemprov DKI is meticulous in selecting private schools for the free school programme. She detailed several requirements that must be met, including having an establishment permit, possessing a National School Identification Number registered in the National Education Data Management System, and submitting data to the National Education Data Management System in line with the actual conditions at the private educational unit quarterly in the current year. Furthermore, the schools must be accredited by the National Education Accreditation Agency, have received operational school assistance from the central government for the past three consecutive years without interruption, and not be part of cooperative educational units or joint new student admission systems. Additional requirements include willingness to follow Education Funding based on the established Governor’s Regulation and having a private educational unit bank account in the name of the private educational unit at a bank. In addition, Nahdiana said that private educational units in the free private school programme must conduct teaching and learning processes without any interrupted classes, with provisions for primary schools or equivalents covering classes 1 to 6. For junior secondary schools or equivalents, classes 7 to 9, and for senior secondary schools/vocational secondary schools or equivalents, classes 10 to 12. Nahdiana revealed that Pemprov DKI also prioritises and selects private educational units in sub-districts that do not have educational units operated by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.
