Jakarta Provincial Government Allocates Rp 99.9 Billion for LPDP Scholarships to 11 Countries Starting 2027
The Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared a budget of Rp 99.9 billion for a regional Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP) scholarship programme, which is scheduled to commence in 2027. The programme is targeted to finance 100 students pursuing master’s (S2) and doctoral (S3) degrees in 11 countries.
“This LPDP programme has already been included in the budget under the scholarship scheme. So, this LPDP is for master’s and doctoral degrees abroad. The budget has been designed, and it is around Rp 99.9 billion, projected for 100 recipients, depending on the selection process later,” said Head of the Jakarta Education Agency, Nahdiana, during a meeting with Commission E of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives on Monday (27/7/2026).
Nahdiana explained that the Jakarta Education Agency is currently coordinating with the central LPDP to formulate the implementation mechanism for the programme. This is because the overseas scholarship programme is the first of its kind to be run by the Jakarta Provincial Government.
Nahdiana stated that of the total 100 recipients, 70 are projected to be master’s degree students, while the remaining 30 will be doctoral candidates. “We are continuing to coordinate with the central LPDP regarding the implementation process, as this is the first time. So, it is projected that there will be 70 recipients for master’s degrees and 30 for doctoral degrees,” she said.
According to Nahdiana, scholarship recipients will study in 11 countries selected based on Jakarta’s development needs. The determination of study programmes will also be tailored to the human resource requirements within the Jakarta Provincial Government. “Based on the study and coordination draft with the central LPDP, there are indeed 11 countries where the study programmes will follow what Jakarta needs. That is part of the priorities,” Nahdiana stated.
The 11 destination countries for the scholarship programme are the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, South Korea, France, Singapore, China, and Russia. Nevertheless, Nahdiana said the list of countries and the implementation mechanism will still be finalised together with the central LPDP and relevant regional apparatus organisations. “We are still coordinating with the relevant regional apparatus organisations and the central LPDP. So, the budget is already in the 2027 draft,” she concluded.
