The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta has affirmed its commitment to simplifying the licensing process for film and content production in order to increase the number of film productions in Jakarta, serve as a means of tourism promotion, and provide an economic impact for the community. To this end, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno is optimistic that the Jakarta Film Commission, under the DKI Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, along with the municipally owned enterprise PT Jakarta Tourisindo (Jakarta Experience Board) through its Strategic Business Unit for Film, can provide a solution through the ‘Filming in Jakarta’ service to support ease of production for both national and international films. ‘We are launching a one-stop film service, namely Filming in Jakarta. We invite filmmakers, creators, and investors to bring their ideas and stories. Please create in Jakarta,’ said Rano during the Asia Pacific Video Operators Summit (APOS) 2026 in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Thursday (18/6), as broadcast in an official statement in Jakarta on Friday. In a presentation titled ‘Unlocking Jakarta: City of Cinema, The New Incentives for Filmmakers and Creators’, Rano explained that the vision of Jakarta as a cinema city was born from various challenges faced by production houses, especially regarding complicated licensing processes and the many parties required to give approval. As a form of support for the film industry, the Jakarta Provincial Government is also providing a 50 percent discount for shooting locations and an incentive in the form of a 50 percent entertainment tax refund on national film ticket sales in cinemas. ‘The support in the form of a 50 percent discount for shooting locations at assets belonging to the Jakarta Provincial Government and municipally owned enterprises, as well as the entertainment tax refund on cinema tickets for national films, is intended so that production houses can reinvest their funds to produce films and develop their businesses,’ said Rano. On the occasion, Rano also invited filmmakers, creators, video operators, and investors to attend the Jakarta Film Summit and Jakarta Film Week taking place on 19-25 October 2026. ‘We invite all of you to attend and participate in the formulation of incentives, expand networks, and together develop Jakarta as a cinema city,’ Rano stated.
