Jakarta Province to Launch its Own LPDP Scholarship Programme, Sending 100 Students Abroad Next Year
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Jakarta Provincial Government is seriously preparing a scholarship programme, similar to the LPDP, specifically for residents of the capital city who wish to study abroad. The programme is planned to begin next year.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that he truly wants to create an LPDP version for the Jakarta Provincial Government. This is being done so that children in Jakarta can have the opportunity to study abroad with scholarships to improve their families’ economic conditions.
“One of the things I really want to launch is to have a Jakarta LPDP. Is it possible? I am sure it is. I am sure it is,” he said at the Jakarta Education Office, Thursday (26/2/2026).
Pramono revealed that he actually wanted to implement the programme this year. However, the Jakarta Provincial Government’s 2026 budget experienced a reduction due to cuts in revenue sharing. As a result, the scholarship programme was postponed, given that the budget cuts reached around IDR 15 trillion.
Despite this, he said that the Jakarta Provincial Government’s intention to create a scholarship programme similar to the LPDP has not diminished. In fact, the Jakarta Provincial Government has also held discussions with the Director of the LPDP Scholarship, Dwi Larso.
“Three days ago, I was accompanied by Ms. Nana (Head of the Education Office, Nahdiana) and we received the director, or the highest-ranking official at the LPDP, Mr. Dwi Larso. We have started to discuss the details,” he said.
