Jakarta Prosecutor's Office Returns SPDP in Firli Bahuri Extortion Case After Two Years
The Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati) DKI Jakarta has stated that it has returned the Notification of Commencement of Investigation (SPDP) in the alleged extortion case involving the suspect, former Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Firli Bahuri.
The Head of the Legal Information Section (Kasipenkum) of Kejati DKI Jakarta, Dapot Dariarma, said that the SPDP was returned because the instructions from the prosecutors were not fulfilled by the investigators from the Metro Jaya Police.
“We returned the SPDP, not the case file again. The SPDP was returned on 7 August 2025,” he told reporters on Friday (24/4).
Dapot explained that the investigation team has a time limit to complete the case file in accordance with the prosecutors’ instructions outlined in P19. However, until the time expired, the case file had not been returned.
“The prosecutors’ instructions were not fulfilled within the determined time limit. There is a time limit. We send P20 (investigation time expired), if P20 is not fulfilled, then we return the SPDP,” he stated.
Furthermore, Dapot mentioned that with the return of the SPDP, the handling of the case will start over from the beginning. Thus, the Metro Jaya Police investigators must start again by sending a new SPDP if they want to continue the case.
“Yes, that’s correct (if SPDP has been returned, send a new SPDP),” he said.
The Metro Jaya Police is known to have named Firli as a suspect in the extortion case against former Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo on 22 November 2023.
In this case, the retired three-star Police general is alleged to have violated Article 12 E and/or Article 12 B and/or Article 11 of the Corruption Eradication Law in conjunction with Article 65 of the Criminal Code, with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
However, after a year as a suspect, there has been no significant progress in the investigation conducted by the Subdirectorate of Corruption Crime Control of the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Metro Jaya Police.
The investigators have recorded twice sending the case file to the Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati) DKI Jakarta, and it was returned twice because it was deemed incomplete.
