The South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari Jaksel) has decided not to detain Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa, suspects in the case of alleged false accusations regarding the authenticity of former President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) diploma. The pair were handed over to the prosecutor’s office by Polda Metro Jaya earlier today.

Head of the South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office, Marcelo Bellah, stated that the suspension of detention was based on the opinion of the public prosecutor’s team regarding requests from the suspects’ legal counsel and families. He noted that the families of both suspects are prepared to act as guarantors.

“Along with a written statement from the suspects that they will always be cooperative in fulfilling all obligations and regulations, and will not repeat the act, maintaining a conducive situation, therefore, in accordance with applicable mechanisms and provisions, the suspects are not detained,” Marcelo told reporters after the handover.

Marcelo also confirmed that prosecutors received 714 items of evidence from the police, predominantly consisting of documents, books, mobile phones, and flash drives containing links and videos related to the case.

Following the decision, Roy Suryo expressed his gratitude. “Alhamdulillah, I personally, Roy Suryo Notodiprojo, offer many thanks, most clearly to my loyal friend, Dr Tifauzia Tyasuma, as we continue to struggle,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Tifa thanked President Prabowo Subianto, expressing her belief that he had a hand in the decision not to detain her. “First of all, I would like to thank the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr Prabowo Subianto, because he was very instrumental, I am sure he played a part in how we fought this,” she stated.
