The Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya), headed by Senior Commissioner Komarudin, has identified accident hotspots during the mudik season. He stated that arterial routes are particularly at risk of accidents.

“There are several locations that have the potential to be accident hotspots. We are very concerned about arterial routes,” Senior Commissioner Komarudin told journalists on Friday, 13 March 2026.

He outlined several high-risk accident zones for mudik travellers, and urged the public to increase their vigilance while driving.

“Starting from Pondok Indah heading south, the Pondok Indah-Ciputat route heading west, then Daan Mogot heading west, including also Kalimalang. These are locations with potential for accidents during mudik,” he explained.

Senior Commissioner Komarudin also appealed to mudik travellers to be mindful and not to carry excessive baggage whilst driving. Travellers were also reminded to maintain their physical condition to endure the journey home.

“We urge mudik travellers who must ride their own motorbikes to pay attention to their baggage. Do not carry too much, and also be careful with passengers,” he clarified.

He also recommended that the public take advantage of the government’s free mudik programme, which he assessed as safer than mudik with private vehicles.

“Given the considerable distance, and the weather which is sometimes rainy, it is important to be very careful. If possible at all, just use the free mudik programme,” he added.
