Jakarta Police Pursue Suspect in Snatching Incident Involving Foreign National at HI Roundabout

We would like to inform you that our team is currently pursuing the suspected perpetrator of the snatching incident involving the foreign national victim,” said the Head of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, to reporters at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Friday (15/5/2026).

Commissioner Iman said that his team is currently pursuing the suspected perpetrator. He targeted that in the near future the perpetrator can be arrested.

“So our team is currently pursuing the suspected perpetrator. God willing, we will make the arrest soon,” he said.

Based on a dashboard camera video that went viral on social media, as seen by detikcom on Wednesday (14/5), a man was seen standing on the side of the road at the HI Roundabout. The victim was seen focusing on their mobile phone.

Shortly after, a red motorcycle rider passed by near the victim. The motorcycle rider then immediately snatched the mobile phone from the victim’s hand.

Surprised by the motorcyclist’s actions, the victim then tried to chase after them. However, when they started running, the victim stumbled.

The Head of the Menteng Police, AKBP Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu, confirmed the snatching incident. He said that his team is currently pursuing the perpetrator.

“We already know, we are trying to find the perpetrator,” said AKBP Braiel when confirmed.

He also confirmed that the victim was a foreign national. The victim has also been questioned.

“Yes (the victim) is a foreign national, we have questioned the victim,” he said.

He hopes that the perpetrator can be arrested as soon as possible. He also urged the public to be more vigilant while on the side of the road.

“Hopefully the perpetrator can be caught quickly. The public should be more vigilant when waiting on the side of the road,” he said. (dek/dek)
