Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police has formed the ‘Tim Pemburu Begal’ (Street Robbery Hunters) specifically to address the increasing number of street robbery incidents that are causing public concern.

“We have prepared the ‘Tim Pemburu Begal’ which is ready to operate 24 hours a day to help us keep Jakarta even safer,” said the Director of General Criminal Investigation at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Pol. Iman Imanuddin, during a press conference in Jakarta, Friday.

This is an effort to quickly respond to and address various incidents that have occurred within the jurisdiction of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police.

“We have prepared teams at various points that are quite vulnerable to crime. Based on the various incidents that have occurred, we have analysed and identified high-risk areas. We will deploy our teams there, both from the police precinct, the police district, and the General Criminal Investigation Directorate,” he said.

In addition, Iman said that they are building collaboration with individuals who are active on social media to share information about criminal activities.

“We need active collaboration so that we can all move quickly together. The speed of information obtained will help us uncover cases or incidents that occur,” he said.

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police has arrested 103 suspects involved in street crimes in the past few months of 2026.

The suspects were apprehended following the investigation of 171 police reports filed at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police and its precincts.

The details are as follows: 86 cases of aggravated theft, 10 cases of robbery, and 75 cases of motor vehicle theft.

Iman said that this firm action was taken as a form of the National Police’s commitment to providing a sense of security and ensuring the conduciveness of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s jurisdiction from all forms of disruption to public order, thuggery, and street crime.
