Jakarta Police Form 'Anti-Theft Squad', Ready to Operate 24 Hours
The Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police has formed the ‘Anti-Theft Squad’. This team will be deployed to high-risk areas and surrounding cities of Jakarta.
“Colleagues, first, how do we address the issue of theft, which has recently gone viral on social media? Therefore, colleagues, today we would like to inform you and the public that we are making our utmost efforts,” said the Director of General Criminal Investigation of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters, Friday (15/5/2026).
Iman stated that the Ditreskrimum of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police is striving to respond quickly to various incidents within its jurisdiction. The Ditreskrimum of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police has deployed the ‘Anti-Theft Squad’.
“In addition, we have also prepared, and you may notice a different atmosphere behind us today. We have prepared the ‘Anti-Theft Squad’ which is ready to operate 24 hours a day to work together to make Jakarta safer,” he said.
He said that the Anti-Theft Squad is being prepared for deployment to various high-crime areas. He stated that the Jakarta Metropolitan Police has mapped out high-crime areas.
“We will deploy our team, both at the police precinct level, the police district level, and the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation level. We will spread them throughout the jurisdiction of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police,” he said.
Iman said that cases of theft with violence, theft, and aggravated theft, and vehicle theft often occur in the surrounding areas, namely Bekasi, Depok, and Tangerang.
“Furthermore, the areas where these incidents occur frequently are in the surrounding areas, Bekasi, Depok, and Tangerang. This is also our concern to make efforts to uncover and suppress the intentions and opportunities of the perpetrators,” he said.
The Jakarta Metropolitan Police is also building collaboration with social media activists to share information. This collaboration is being carried out to respond more quickly to incidents.
“Hopefully, with the efforts we are making, we can create a sense of security for the people of Jakarta,” he concluded.
