Jakarta Police Force, Now Led by a Three-Star General, Urged to Enhance Public Services
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya) is now led by a high-ranking officer with a three-star rank, or Commissioner General (Komjen), after the Chief of the Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police, Asep Edi Suheri, was officially promoted.
The Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police, Budi Hermanto, said that the promotion was in accordance with Presidential Decree Number 38/POLRI/Year 2026 dated May 13, 2026.
In response to this change, a member of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas), Mohammad Choirul Anam, encouraged the force to ensure that the increase in status is followed by an improvement in the quality of services to the public.
According to Anam, the Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police has different characteristics compared to other regional police forces, both in terms of social dynamics, policing, and the economy.
Previously, information about the promotion of Asep Edi Suheri was announced through the official Instagram account of the Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police on Wednesday (May 13, 2026).
In the post, the Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police conveyed its congratulations on Asep’s promotion.
“Congratulations and best wishes to Commissioner General of Police Asep Edi Suheri, S.I.K., M.Si. for his promotion to the next higher rank of Commissioner General of Police,” said the caption in the post.
Meanwhile, the National Police Chief, Listyo Sigit Prabowo, revealed that one of the reasons for Asep’s promotion was to align his rank with that of the Commander of the Jaya Military Command, Deddy Suryadi, who was already a three-star general, or Lieutenant General (Letjen).
“(The reason for the promotion) is to align with the Commander of the Military Command,” said General Sigit to Kompas.com on Wednesday.
