Jakarta Police Deputy Chief Urges Maximum Security for Labour Day
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Chief of Jakarta Police, Brigjen Pol Dekananto Eko Purwono, has requested combined personnel to provide maximum services and security for all participants attending the International Labour Day or May Day celebrations in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, on Friday (1/5).
“Services and security for the May Day commemoration are a matter of public concern, thus requiring readiness, shared perceptions, and uniformity of steps from all personnel in the field, both from TNI and Polri,” said Brigjen Pol Dekananto Eko Purwono while leading the Troops Roll Call in preparation for securing the International Labour Day commemoration at the Monas Intersection, Central Jakarta, on Thursday.
He emphasised that all personnel must ensure that arrival routes from drop-off points to the event area proceed orderly, directed, and without causing congestion at the entrances, main access to Monas, and along protocol routes.
Combined officers are also requested to manage the crowd in a humane manner so that the May Day celebration activities run safely, orderly, and smoothly.
The Deputy Chief also stressed that all personnel understand the security pattern during the presence of President Prabowo Subianto at the celebration.
“Conduct sterilisation of certain areas, and carry out intensive coordination with the Presidential Security Force and the organising committee,” he said.
He also requested that field personnel ensure all evacuation routes are sterile and ready for use in emergency conditions.
In addition, for the health team, the Deputy Chief ensured readiness to anticipate fatigue, dehydration, ill participants, or emergency conditions due to crowd density.
He requested supervision in crowd areas, entry and exit routes, and parking pockets to anticipate theft and other street crimes.
Furthermore, personnel are expected to be wary of infiltration by non-relevant groups or provocateurs through cross-functional coordination and inter-unit communication so that every potential vulnerability can be anticipated from the start.
“Prepare information points and reporting mechanisms for participants separated from their groups, and provide quick assistance so they can return to their groups,” he said.
He also requested that personnel ensure traffic flow continues and the impact on community activities is minimised.
Previously, the Head of Public Relations of Jakarta Police, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, stated that 24,980 combined personnel would ensure the success and escort the implementation of the May Day Fiesta 2026 or the International Labour Day commemoration centred in the Monas area, Jakarta.
“Jakarta Police along with TNI, regional government, security guards, and related elements are preparing 24,980 personnel to ensure the 2026 May Day activities can run safely, orderly, smoothly, humanely, and conducive,” said Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto after the Security Roll Call at the Monas area in Jakarta on Thursday.
The Director of Traffic of Jakarta Police, Kombes Pol Komarudin, stated that the total number of workers participating in the International Labour Day implementation in the Monas area would reach 200,000 people, with an estimated 4,000 buses entering Jakarta for the labour day commemoration tomorrow.
