Jakarta Police Deploy 155 Personnel to Secure Chinese New Year Events
Polda Metro Jaya deployed 155 personnel, consisting of one company-level unit (SSK) from the Directorate of Community Service (Dit Samapta) with 75 personnel and one SSK from the Mobile Brigade Corps (Satbrimob) with 80 personnel, the Polda Metro Jaya Public Relations Chief, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said in a statement on Monday.
For this year’s Chinese New Year celebrations, his office is conducting both overt and undercover security at several places of worship.
“As well as the celebration locations, we are increasing patrols in vulnerable areas, crowded areas, and routes leading to monasteries and temples,” Hermanto added.
Furthermore, Polda Metro Jaya is also holding a personnel readiness roll call and sterilising the locations before the services.
“We are conducting traffic control and strengthening coordination with the management of places of worship and relevant agencies,” he remarked.
Previously, the government scheduled the inaugural Chinese New Year Festival to be held from 17 February to 3 March 2026, at Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, with the tagline “Harmoni Nusantara.”
Embracing the spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity), which promotes inclusivity, diversity, and interfaith harmony, the 2026 Chinese New Year Festival included Lantern Festivals in various cities, culinary market festivals featuring acculturated food, arts, and creative products, an open-air museum showcasing Chinese cultural acculturation, and the Nusantara Chinese New Year Parade with a lion dance performance.
The culmination of the National Chinese New Year Festival celebrations will be packaged as an open and inclusive celebration for the wider community, including martial arts performances.
Besides Jakarta, the 2026 Chinese New Year Festival is also held through national activities in various cities across Indonesia, including Singkawang, Palembang, Solo, Semarang, Manado, Makassar, Surabaya, Medan, Bogor, Batam, and Pontianak, showcasing a variety of regional Chinese New Year cultural expressions in the spirit of Harmoni Nusantara.
