Jakarta Police Chief: Maintaining Security in Jakarta Cannot Be Done Alone
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chief of the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Kapolda Metro Jaya), Commissioner General Asep Edi Suheri, has asserted that maintaining security and order in Jakarta and its surrounding areas cannot be undertaken by the Indonesian National Police (Polri) alone. He made the statement while leading the Tradition Ceremony for the Conferment of the Nugraha Sakanti Honour at the Polda Metro Jaya Precision Field on Monday. “Synergy between the Polri, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), local governments, stakeholders, and the community is a crucial strength in facing the complex dynamics of the capital,” Asep said. He also expressed deep appreciation and gratitude to the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, the Jaya Regional Military Command, buffer zone local governments, the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), as well as religious and community leaders for the close collaboration established so far. According to the former Deputy Chief of the Criminal Investigation Agency, the Nugraha Sakanti Honour awarded to Polda Metro Jaya based on Presidential Decree Number 38 TK of 2026 is the sweet fruit of collective dedication and cross-sectoral cooperation, not merely individual work. He expressed hope that this highest state award would become a momentum to further strengthen solidarity among all elements of the nation in maintaining public security and order (kamtibmas) stability in the capital region. On the occasion, Asep also conveyed six presidential directives serving as moral guidelines for all Polri members: maintaining public trust, being a police force close to the people, enforcing the law fairly, increasing professionalism, strengthening synergy with all elements of the nation, and never ceasing to improve oneself. “Be a police officer who is beneficial to society, and never hurt the hearts of the people,” Asep stated. He emphasised the importance of rapid response to public reports, early detection, prevention, good communication, and collaborative problem-solving. “We must act firmly, professionally, and proportionately against all forms of public order disturbances and legal violations,” Asep said. He further invited all personnel to make the Nugraha Sakanti Honour a compass of devotion and new energy to provide the best service to the community, nation, and state, in line with the spirit of the Polda Metro Jaya motto, Jaya Dharma Sevaka, which means success in every duty of service.
