Jakarta Police Arrest Father for Sexually Abusing His Biological Child for Years
The Directorate of Women and Children Protection and Trafficking in Persons (Ditres PPA dan PPO) of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police has arrested a man identified as H (48) for allegedly sexually abusing his own biological child. Disturbingly, the abuse was carried out repeatedly.
Head of Ditres PPA dan PPO of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Rita Wulandari Wibowo, said the case was reported on 11 February 2025. Based on the investigation, the abuse occurred between 2020 and September 2024, when the victim was still a minor.
“This case has drawn our attention because the alleged violence occurred within the family environment and involved someone who should have provided protection. The handling of this case aims to prove the criminal act while ensuring the victim receives protection, assistance, and recovery support,” said Rita in her statement on Tuesday (11/8/2026).
The case came to light after the victim confided in a school guidance counsellor and homeroom teacher. The school, together with the family, then provided assistance and placed the victim in an appropriate protection facility.
Investigators have examined the victim, the complainant, family members, teachers, school officials, neighbourhood authorities, and several other witnesses. Investigators also conducted a crime scene investigation, a medical examination through a visum, and a psychological assessment of the victim.
“The victim’s statement is not viewed in isolation, but is correlated with witness testimony, medical and psychological examination results, expert testimony, crime scene investigation, and other evidence. All of this is analysed to build an objective and accountable case construction,” she explained.
Investigators named H as a suspect on 15 July 2026. The suspect was arrested and immediately detained at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Detention Centre.
Investigators have also obtained an extension of the detention period from the Jakarta Special Region High Prosecutor’s Office. The case file has now been submitted to the Public Prosecutor. Investigators are coordinating with the prosecutor to complete the case file.
Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, added that the handling of child sexual abuse cases must prioritise the best interests of the victim. Police urge the public to report to the 110 hotline if they know of or discover suspected child sexual abuse.
“We encourage families, schools, and the community to be more sensitive to changes in children’s behaviour and to provide a safe space for them to speak up. When a child tells you something, listen without judgement, provide protection, and seek help immediately,” said Budi.
