Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) for Jakarta Province, Beky Mardani, has emphasised the importance of accountability and transparency in managing the PMI Fundraising Month as part of efforts to maintain public trust.

“Ladies and gentlemen, there is no need for doubt because the legal basis for the implementation of this Fundraising Month is clear,” said Beky during the launch of the Central Jakarta PMI Fundraising Month for 2026 in Jakarta on Thursday.

He stated that the PMI Fundraising Month serves as a momentum to build solidarity and public care for others through support for PMI’s humanitarian activities.

Beky explained that the implementation of these activities is supported by a legal framework, including Law Number 1 of 2018 concerning the Red Cross movement. Therefore, the public does not need to question the purpose of its organisation, provided that the management and accountability of the funds are conducted properly.

According to him, transparency is vital because the funds collected through the PMI Fundraising Month are public funds that must be accounted for in their usage.

“Because this is the people’s fund, because this is public money, we certainly must be accountable. The public also has the right to know,” said Beky.

Beky expressed hope that such accountability mechanisms could prevent misunderstandings within the community during the 2026 PMI Fundraising Month, which will take place from September to November.

In addition to accountability, he noted that public support for PMI is essential because the scope of the humanitarian organisation’s duties is quite broad, ranging from disaster management and health services to blood provision.

He cited the handling of fires in Central Jakarta as an example, noting that such incidents can have a significant impact on the community, even if the frequency is not as high as in West Jakarta.

“If a fire occurs in Central Jakarta, both Jakarta PMI and Central PMI respond, because the scale of the fire and its impact is greater,” Beky remarked.

He also mentioned that the support gathered through the PMI Fundraising Month can be utilised to assist communities affected by disasters outside of Jakarta.

Beyond disaster management, he stated that PMI also holds responsibilities in blood services.

He assessed that the demand for blood in Jakarta must be met daily to assist patients requiring transfusions.

Therefore, Beky invited the public not only to provide support through the Fundraising Month but also to understand and be aware of the various humanitarian activities carried out by PMI.

He also urged the Central Jakarta PMI to optimise social media channels during the fundraising period to communicate their services to the public transparently.

“We must demonstrate to the public the activities being performed by PMI. We need to increase this so that the community knows that PMI is truly working, that PMI is present, and that PMI is always ready to help,” Beky concluded.
