Jakarta is on alert for tidal flooding until the end of May 2026, with several northern coastal areas at risk of impact. Jakarta’s tidal flooding is forecasted to occur in two periods: 14–22 May and 28–31 May 2026. Based on modelling, the high tide is estimated to reach 0.69 metres above mean sea level (MSL). Areas at potential risk include Tanjung Kamal Muara, Muara Angke, Muara Baru, Pasar Ikan, Ancol Marina and JIS, Tanjung Priok, Kali Baru, and Marunda. The modelling considers various factors, such as land subsidence, sea level rise, coastal elevation, and tides in Jakarta Bay. However, conditions may still change depending on on-site dynamics, such as embankment construction, potential leaks, and non-tidal factors like sea surface anomalies and high waves due to wind. Head of the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Agency (SDA), Ika Agustin Ningrum, stated that preparedness is focused on pump operations and field monitoring. “The DKI Jakarta Provincial Water Resources Agency, through the North Jakarta SDA Sub-Agency, continues to prepare and operate pumps as well as various anticipatory measures for potential tidal flooding,” said Ika on Tuesday (5/5/2026), quoted from the official DKI Provincial Government website. A total of 171 stationary pump units spread across 56 points in North Jakarta are on standby to anticipate inundation. In addition, mobile pumps are prepared to reach areas not served by fixed pumps. Several flood control infrastructures are also being optimised, including the Marina Water Gate, Pluit Pumping Station, Ancol Pump, Muara Angke Pump, Pasar Ikan Pump, and Kamal Polder Pump. “The Blue Troops are also deployed to guard and conduct routine monitoring to ensure field conditions remain under control,” said Ika. She explained that land subsidence is one of the main factors exacerbating the risk of tidal flooding in Jakarta’s coastal areas.
