Jakarta Officials Praise Police Boxing Initiative to Curb Youth Brawls

The North Jakarta city government and the local leadership forum (Forkopimko) have praised the initiative by the North Jakarta Metro Police and Penjaringan Metro Police, in collaboration with the Penjaringan Bersatu Forum, to hold an amateur boxing tournament titled ‘Penjaringan Boxing Showcase Vol. 2’ as an effort to suppress brawls in the area. “We support this youth boxing match to reduce the number of brawl cases in North Jakarta,” said North Jakarta Mayor Hendra Hidayat in Jakarta on Sunday. According to him, the boxing match held in Penjaringan has significantly helped to lower the brawl rate in North Jakarta. “Especially in the Penjaringan area, the brawl rate is quite high,” he said. The North Jakarta City Government will continue to support this boxing sports event to provide a positive outlet for young people. “Hopefully, we can collaborate to hold it at a higher level, with more participants and more prizes. Happy 80th Bhayangkara Anniversary,” he said. Commander of Kodim 0502/JU, Colonel Inf. M. Syaifudin Fanany, stated that the boxing match in Penjaringan is very positive for reducing brawl rates among teenagers and youths. “Residents of North Jakarta can channel their talents. Hopefully, in the future, this activity can produce professional and international boxing talents,” he said. Meanwhile, Head of the North Jakarta District Attorney’s Office, Syahrul Juaksha Subuki, stated that as a partner of the police, his office supports the efforts made by the North Jakarta Metro Police. He said that as a resident of North Jakarta, he is proud of this tournament and that this condition aligns with the theme of the 80th Bhayangkara Anniversary, which is ‘Polri Untuk Masyarakat’ (The National Police for the Community). “This is a real manifestation of the National Police being present in the community to guarantee their security and safety,” he said. Previously, hundreds of youths from street fighter groups and brawl perpetrators participated in the Penjaringan Boxing Showcase Vol. 2 at the Mawar Flats, RW 12, Penjaringan District, North Jakarta, organised by the North Jakarta Metro Police, Penjaringan Metro Police, and the Penjaringan Bersatu Forum. “Through this boxing match, we hope to reduce the number of brawls,” said North Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Commissioner Erick Frendriz, in Jakarta on Sunday. He stated that after the implementation of the first Penjaringan Boxing Showcase, the brawl rate in North Jakarta had decreased significantly. Commissioner Erick said the boxing match aims to recruit talented young people from the North Jakarta area in the sport of boxing. “We hope there will be young athletes from North Jakarta,” he said.
