Jakarta North City Government: Labour Day Strengthens Industrial Relations

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Secretary of North Jakarta City, Iyan Sopian Hadi, stated that the commemoration of International Labour Day (May Day) is not only a symbol of workers’ struggles but also a momentum to strengthen industrial relations. “International Labour Day is an important momentum to strengthen harmonious, dynamic, and equitable industrial relations between workers, entrepreneurs, and the government,” Iyan said during the Peace Declaration Meeting for International Labour Day in Jakarta on Thursday. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining regional stability, considering that North Jakarta is one of the national economic and logistics centres. “Through this activity, we demonstrate our collective commitment that the May Day commemoration in North Jakarta can be carried out safely, orderly, and conducive,” he stated. He invited all elements to maintain the investment climate and to express aspirations peacefully. Workers’ aspirations are an important part of development and must be conveyed politely, peacefully, and in accordance with the rules. Iyan hopes that the entire series of May Day 2026 activities in North Jakarta can run smoothly and bring benefits to workers and the wider community. “Let us maintain togetherness and stability for common welfare,” he said. Previously, the Tanjung Priok Port Police Resort held a dialogue with labour unions in the port area and a peace declaration ahead of International Labour Day. “This peace declaration and dialogue serve as a forum to directly listen to various problems faced by workers,” said the Tanjung Priok Port Police Resort Chief, AKBP Aris Wibowo, in Jakarta on Thursday. According to him, the relationship between the Tanjung Priok Port Police Resort and workers has so far been well-established, and therefore he hopes that this relationship will become even stronger. He assessed that this declaration and dialogue were conducted to absorb workers’ aspirations directly. “This good relationship must continue to be maintained and strengthened,” he said.
