Jakarta North City Government Cleans Kelapa Gading Connecting Canal of Sailfin Catfish
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The North Jakarta City Government (Pemkot) is cleaning the Connecting Canal (Phb) on Jalan Raya Janur Elok RW 06, Kelapa Gading Sub-District, Kelapa Gading, of sailfin catfish.
“The location was chosen because of the presence of an invasive sailfin catfish population,” said the Head of the Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Sub-District Office (KPKP) of North Jakarta City, Novi C Palit, in Jakarta on Thursday.
She stated that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will carry out simultaneous sailfin catfish cleanups in each region on Friday (17/4).
“We chose that location because we have observed a significant sailfin catfish population there.”
She added that the canal cleanup will be assisted by a joint team including the KPKP Sub-District Office, PPSU, Satpol PP, Gulkarmat Sub-District Office, as well as TNI and Polri.
“The activity is planned to start at 07:00 WIB, and there will be an inspection by the Governor of DKI Jakarta,” she said.
Previously, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung instructed his apparatus to carry out sailfin catfish cleanups across all areas of the capital where there are large populations of the fish.
“I request that it not be only in Central Jakarta, but in all regions where there are many sailfin catfish, we conduct operations (cleanups),” said Pramono during a press statement at the East Jakarta City Hall Office on Sunday.
Recently, sailfin catfish cleanup actions in Jakarta began in the Central Jakarta area, specifically in canals around the Grand Hyatt and Plaza Indonesia (PI).
The cleanup involved the Central Jakarta Mayor, the Provincial DKI Jakarta Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Office (KPKP), and Public Facilities and Infrastructure Handling Officers (PPSU).
