Jakarta no longer needs promotion
JAKARTA (JP): The city administration feels there is no need
for Jakarta to organize promotional campaigns aimed at attracting
both domestic and foreign tourists to the capital, an official
said.
Pujo Basuki, head of the city's post, telecommunications and
tourism office, said in Bandar Lampung over the weekend that even
without promotional campaigns, it was recorded that every year
tens of thousands of people visit Jakarta and are intending to
settle in the capital, Antara reported.
He was in Bandar Lampung to attend a meeting being held to
find ways to attract foreign tourists to Indonesia.
Pujo pointed out that Jakarta's tourism program is encouraging
tourists visiting the capital to also visit other places in
Indonesia.
He stressed that Jakarta would continue to improve tourist
sites available in the city and its surrounding areas, including,
Bekasi, Tangerang and Bogor, as well as to boost efforts to
preserve the ancient and traditional Betawi culture.
"It is very unique and interesting that in such a metropolis
as Jakarta, there are still places which continue to preserve the
ancient arts and culture of old Jakarta, which are not being made
extinct, despite tremendous onslaughts of modern cultural values
coming from foreign countries," Pujo noted. (bas)
